The Society for Classical Studies is pleased to announce that the 2025 Erich S. Gruen Prize is now open for submissions. All graduate students in North America are invited to enter the annual competition for the best graduate research paper on multiculturalism in the ancient Mediterranean. This year the prize will be a cash award of $1,000.

Hellenic Research Fellowship Program 2025-2026
The Society for Classical Studies is pleased to announce the new annual Raffaella Cribiore Award for Outstanding Literary Translation. The award will honor up to two books each year by SCS members published within the past three calendar years. The translated work shall be a primary text in Ancient Greek or Latin.
The Award for Excellence in Academic Advising recognizes programs and departments which actively and positively shape students’ lives and careers through purposeful and sustained advising activities, and is inclusive of academic, research, internship, and employment preparation of students at the undergraduate or graduate level. The award will be granted annually to one department or program that demonstrates excellence in creating a culture of positive student advisement in any or all levels of postsecondary education.
The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) announces the seventh competition for Leading Edge Fellowships, made possible by the generous support of the Mellon Foundation. The program demonstrates the dynamic capacity of the humanities to advance justice and equity in society and illuminates career pathways for recent PhDs beyond the academy.
In 2024, the fifth year of the SCS Erich S. Gruen Prize, the selection committee received submissions from graduate students across North America who present exciting new approaches to race, ethnicity, and cultural exchange as they pertain to the ancient Mediterranean. The committee was impressed by the papers’ quality and wide range of disciplinary perspectives, methodologies, types of evidence, and time periods.
